GROUNDSKEEPER
The Role:
Employees in this job oversee and perform maintenance and landscaping duties at Bishop’s
Orchards Farm Markets and the properties owned by the company. General maintenance in
all areas of the business that the public sees or enters, (excluding direct care of farm crops)
making sure that they sustain constant curb appeal for our customers, passerby’s as well
as employees. This position requires experience. The work requires considerable working
knowledge of motorized equipment and hand/power tools in order to perform grounds work
activities. This position will have a rotating 5-day workweek (Monday –Sunday including
holidays) with the shift generally starting between 7am-10am. Schedules are subject to
change.
Responsibilities:
• Perform general building maintenance including but not limited to repairs and
maintenance to the building, power equipment, refrigeration, painting, light electrical
and plumbing, welding, and various carpentry projects.
• Mechanical knowledge and abilities desired including knowledge of power equipment,
plumbing, painting and carpentry. Ability to use tools and equipment of the building
trades skillfully and safely.
• Plants and trims lawns, trees, bushes, hedges, flowerbeds and shrubs using hand tools
or motorized vehicles. Landscapes new ground areas, repairs damaged ground areas,
replaces bushes, hedges, shrubs, and trees. Fertilizes soil when needed for plant
growth.
• Applies herbicide and pesticide chemicals to grounds, trees, bushes, shrubs, and lawns
in order to control plant diseases and insects under the direction of the Farm Manager.
• Removes snow from sidewalks and parking lots, and spreads salt on sidewalks and
parking lots during icy conditions.
• Orders supplies for all aspects of groundskeeping; e.g., equipment parts, blades,
flowers, bushes, or trees.
• Possess a valid drivers’ license; Drives vehicles such as a car, truck, or van to pick up
other workers, supplies and materials.
• Responsible for the clean up and maintenance of animal pen and disposing of animal
waste.
• Ability to lift materials weighing up to 50 lbs unassisted; occasionally lift weight of up
to 100 lbs
• Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
• Ability to understand and follow written and/or verbal instructions and take direction.
• Must be able to work independently, be self-motivated, and trustworthy.
• Self motivated with a positive attitude and able to work independently
• Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas
• Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and corresponding safety precautions.
• Report any pest and/or safety hazards to the Farm Market Team Leader
• Willingness to work with a diverse group
• Perform other duties as requested
• Ability to work a flexible schedule based on the needs of the farm, farm market
and events, including nights, weekends and holidays as required. Be available for
overtime and emergencies as needed.
• Ability to sit/stand/walk/bend for extended periods of time in varying temperatures on
a concrete floor

Essential Job Functions:
• Stand and walk for extended periods of time.
• Bend and stoop to grasp objects and climb ladders. Bend and twist neck and waist,
reach above and below shoulders and squat.
• Bend and lift loads, not to exceed 50 pounds. Push and pull carts weighing up to 100
pounds.
• Repetitive use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.
• Environmental exposure to extreme temperatures (coolers, ovens, freezer, outdoors,
etc.) and/or excessive dust or dirt.
• Ability to use a computer and similar devices to maintain records, documentation and
communicate.
Education:
• Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school, trade school
and or job experience.
Experience:
Two years of experience as a laborer, farmer, gardener, florist helper, groundskeeper, or
similar work involving general laborer duties which may include the planting and maintenance
of vegetation, landscaping duties, nursery inspections, or pesticide applications.
